Physician Assistant


Description

Responsible for providing medical services to inpatients of Danville Regional Medical Center.  Such medical services may include history and physical exams, evaluation of specific illnesses and/or injuries, and planning for the effective treatment of diseases or injuries, both chronic and acute.   Subject to approval from the VA Board of Pharmacy and under the supervision of the medical directors, prescribe medications allowed by the state for their scope of practice.  Collaborates with the Hospitalist Team as needed to assure safe and effective care. Actively participates with Hospitalist team to ensure communication and implementation of patient care plans. Commuinicates and coordinates with patient's PCP for continuity of care and appropriate followup care, including preparation of the discharge summary and documents required for discharge. Resolves post discharge homecoming call issues as needed. Participates in care team and meetings to assist in evaluation and  development plans for the Hospitalist program. Provides clinical care with appropriate utilization of  resources based on current standards/national guidelines utilizing decision support tools such as Interqual criteria. Educates patient and families regarding the plan of care. Educates and promotes Hospitalist program among hospital staff .

 

Qualifications

Graduate of a Physician's Assistant Program, accredited by a credentialing center recognized by the Board of Health Sciences, i.e. American Nurses' Credentialing Center or the American Academy of Physician's Assistants.  Master's level preparation preferred.  Maintains at least the minimum number of continuing education hours necessary to sustain valid state licensure and national certification.   A minimum of one to two years of Physician's Assistant experience in primary care or the discipline of practice is preferred.  Eligibility to prescribe Schedule drugs in accordance with the regulations of the Commonwealth of Virginia is preferred.   Currently licensed as a Physician's Assistant in the state of Virginia and licensed by the Virginia Department of Health Professions as a Physician's Assistant.  Current national certification by the American Academy of Physician's Assistants, the American Nurses' Credentialing Center or other credentialing center recognized by the board.  (See Regulations governing the Licensure of Physician's Assistants for the State of Virginia).
