THE POSITION – Chief of Hospitalist

Core Responsibilities

The Chief will provide oversight for the service for the Jiahui International Hospital. S/he will work closely with his/her fellow hospitalist and also colleagues from other departments such as: Emergency Medicine Service, Department of Internal Medicine, Department of Surgery, Cancer Center, and other Chairs and leaders within the Jiahui Health to develop and implement best practices for inpatient care.

Operations and strategy:

Hospitalist Service at Jiahui International Hospital

  • Provide direct patient care.
  • Responsible for ensuring direction and vision for the hospitalist Service.
  • Providing outstanding service to patients and referring physicians
  • Guide hospitalist service operations plan and adjust as needed
  • Collaborate with the team to determine the most effective structure for interdisciplinary team meetings.
  • Responsible for ensuring collaboration with integrative medicine.
  • Ensure effective interdisciplinary support including adequate support from other specialties.

Education

  • Directly support the hospitalist to further advance the academic and educational mission of the service.
  • Responsible for ensuring the development of competencies and a curriculum for training new nurses and hospitalist trainees.
  • Responsible for ensuring management of rotations for off-service.
  • Encourage, develop, and participate in research activities within the Service.

Team Development and Management

  • Foster a culture of collaboration and teamwork, with a dedication to patient care and quality outcomes.
  • Establish the faculty development plan including identification of specific sub-specialty capabilities as may be required for program development.
  • Participate in recruitment efforts for ongoing staffing needs.
  • Proactively work on all aspects of faculty and staff retention.
  • Determine appropriate evaluation to ensure competency for hospitalist.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled evaluations that provide constructive feedback for all team members.

Clinical Performance/Quality Improvement

  • Lead efforts to create and monitor appropriate Hospital Medicine dashboard.
  • Lead quality initiatives, including the measurement and monitoring of key metrics, and the development of standardized protocols and policies.
  • Develop, monitor and assess key performance metrics of the physicians, and of the group.
  • Accept accountability for contributing continuously to improving, Service Line, and System performance.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • An M.D degree and Board Certified in Internal Medicine
  • Minimum of fifteen years of clinical experience in hospital medicine required with prior experience in a leadership role within an reputable hospital.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to advance and develop a superior clinical service.
  • High degree of emotional intelligence with excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Expertise in managing an interdisciplinary team.
  • Effective supervisory skills, including clinical mentoring and coaching expertise.
  • Advocate for organizational values.
  • Personal characteristics of integrity, maturity, and honesty aligned with the Mission and Values of the Jiahui Health System.
  • Effective leader of organizational change while being sensitive to organizational culture.
  • Collaborative team member as well as leader, with an ability to shape excellent, high-performing teams.

  • Experience in an integrated health system with demonstrated ability to build relationships and work effectively with various departments and clinicians.
