Position Description:

Reporting directly to the Principals, the Regional Medical Director (“RMD”) of Benchmark Hospitalists will be a key member of the clinical leadership team.

The RMD will oversee the day to day operations throughout their region for BENCHMARK HOSPITALISTS which will consist of between 5-10 sites. The RMD’s primary responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing daily clinical quality, operational and financial metrics of each site within the region
  • Maintaining positive and collaborative relationships with the client administrative teams and supporting the local on-site director while serving as a BENCHMARK HOSPITALISTS ambassador
  • Assisting and driving new business development efforts including participation in RFP creation and development, interviews and contract negotiation
  • Leading site start-up and providing support to the local on-site director during implementation of BENCHMARK HOSPITALISTS’s department of excellence model
  • Establishing the annual strategic plan for each site in the region and meeting monthly with site directors to review performance and adjust plan as required
  • Working clinical shifts in order to maintain an understanding of “on the ground” issues while preserving clinical credibility and presence
  • Leading physician relationship management including retention and satisfaction initiatives, helping instill the BENCHMARK HOSPITALISTS culture at the site level and reinforcing our Group’s principles
  • Representing and potentially presenting BENCHMARK HOSPITALISTS at conferences
  • Works closely with the Recruiting Department in helping to Interview and select candidates that are appropriate for the various sites.
  • Assists the Credentialing and Scheduling departments as it relates to operations.
  • Working closely with the data analytics team in creating, developing and maintaining various operational reports.
  • Interacts with Project Management and oversees all hospital related projects. Create, develop and maintain IT projects with regards to website and clinical portal development.
  • Works with finance and accounting on payroll oversight. Work on the development of a productivity system to bonus providers.
  • Educate providers on appropriate billing documentation concerns as well as CDI issues.

The RMD will be a member of BENCHMARK HOSPITALISTS’s Operational Committee and will help set the Company’s annual goals and strategy. The candidate will be required to be in the field consistently, but will work out of the Company’s headquarters in Manhattan Beach, CA.

Requirements/Qualifications

The successful candidate will be an experienced leader in Hospitalist medicine with a proven background and interpersonal skills sufficient to function as a key member of the executive team while possessing the following skills, experience and abilities:

  • Strong Clinician with proven track record of successful leadership in managing system level and administrative relationships as well as site level directors
  • American Board of Internal Medicine as well as being a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. Membership in the Society of Hospitalists Medicine preferred.
  • True “Pedigree” in the practice and scope of Hospitalist Medicine.
  • Minimum Medical Director experience of 5 years with at least 10 years being preferable
  • Minimum of 5 years directly applicable experience including relevant clinical and supervisory experience for clinical scope
  • Experience in developing and leading medical quality improvement programs, preferably in a managed care setting and implementation of company policies to standardize regions
  • Improving regional efficiencies along with enhanced customer service
  • Pre-existing C-level relationships with hospitals or health systems is a plus
