Hospitalist - Physician - (Hospital Medicine) Locum Tenens
StartDate: 04/28/2014Available Shifts: Varied Shift

Board Certified or Board Eligible Family Practice or Internal Medicine or Emergency Medicine Hospitalist Physician to cover as soon as credentialed for 6 months with the option to extend. *Any State License. Work schedule is Wednesday 8:00pm to 9:00am (13 hours) Thursday 7:00pm to 9:00am (14 hours) and Friday 8:00pm to 9:00am (13 hours). No procedures. Provide Acute medical and Medical Officer of the Day Services. Inpatient & Outpatient Care. Acute medical service consists of 10 acute and five short stay operating beds. While covering at night sleeping quarters are available. Provide care as well to inpatient transitional care and mental health units. Perform history, physical examinations, diagnosis and initiation of medical treatment. Must have both Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support. Site uses computerized medical records system.

A hospitalist (locum tenens) is a physician that is generally Internal Medicine residency trained but can be from Family Medicine or other sub-specialty programs. They specialize in the care of patients who have been admitted into a hospital. These general medicine professionals perform a variety of roles in the hospital and, accordingly, must be familiar with the entirety of human physiology and a wide range of illnesses and medical conditions. Hospitalists complete residencies in internal medicine, much like primary care physicians. When patients arrive to the hospital, a hospitalist will take care of them, prescribing treatment as needed, before referring them to a specialist or discharging them from the facility.
