Hospitalist jobs are regulated by the Ohio Medical Board. The State Medical Board of Ohio is a state agency extablished by the legistlature to protect the public health, safety and welfare by regulating the practice of medicine within the state of Ohio. The Board is responsible for licensing physicians and surgeons, osteopathic physicians and surgeons, podiatric physicians and surgeons, physician assistants, anesthesiologist assistants, massage therapists, cosmetic therapists, mechanotherapists, naprapaths, and acupuncturists. In addition to granting licensure to these professionals, the Ohio Medical Board seeks to ensure the safe and effective provision of medical care to the citizens of Ohio by monitoring and regulating the professional conduct of its licensees and enforcing the provisions adopted by the Board regarding misconduct.

Requirements include:
– Doctor of medicine or doctor of osteopathy degree from an accredited U.S. school of medicine or osteopathy; foreign graduates may apply if they have a permanent certificate from the Educational Council of Foreign Medical Graduates
– Current license to practice medicine in the United States, District of Columbia or Puerto Rico
– Eligibility for board certification
– Completion of an approved Graduate Medical Education (GME) internship in family medicine
– Between 21 and 42 years of age (health care professionals ages 43 to 60 are now eligible for a two-year service contract under the OAPP program)
– Permanent U.S. residency
