Facility Information

South Georgia Medical Center is the South Georgia Health System’s largest and most advanced hospital. From robotic-assisted surgery to open heart surgery and comprehensive cancer care, SGMC offers many services lines found only in metropolitan hospitals.

The Pearlman Cancer Center, which offers radiation therapy, chemotherapy and clinical trials consistently meets and/or exceeds national benchmarks for quality cancer care. The Birthplace at SGMC consistently delivers more babies than any other hospital in the region. In 2012, our Stroke Program received two prestigious awards for stroke care. Our Code STEMI protocol for heart attack patients continues to meet or beat the national benchmark of 90 minutes door-to-cath time for coronary intervention.

Community Information

Valdosta is a city in and the county seat of Lowndes County. Valdosta has a total population of around 60,000 and 140,000 in the catchment surrounding area. It is called the Azalea City as the plant grows in profusion there; the city hosts an annual Azalea Festival in March. The first Friday of every month is ‘Artist night’ and have artists come from all over to display works of art Downtown. There are many amenities along with great restaurants, the Valdosta Mall, the Valdosta Regional Airport with direct flights to Atlanta; a winery just north of Valdosta, several golf courses including PGA played courses, Wild Adventures Theme Park with an auditorium for huge artist to put on concerts and beautiful developments for housing. It is the home of Valdosta State University, a regional university in the University System of Georgia with over 10,900 students, and Valdosta High School, home to the most winning football program in the United States.
