THE APOGEE STORY

Apogee began as a nine-physician group in the Spring of 2002. All of the founding physicians had previously worked in private practice and some had practiced together as Hospitalists for as long as six years. It was felt by most of our doctors that investor-owned groups lacked the patient first mentality of a physician-led group.

The word "Apogee" means "top of the curve; highest point; pinnacle." The name was chosen because we felt it embodied what we were looking for in ourselves and our partners. Our group was conceived around a simple but clinical vision: "What's best for the patient is best for the practice." The group has been built on a foundation that emphasizes lifestyle, security and income. All the money in the world is meaningless if you do not have the time to enjoy it. Too much lifestyle in a fee-for-service medical practice and you will be left without any income to support that lifestyle. Neither lifestyle nor income are sufficient if your practice lacks the security of being financially viable and sustainable.

Apogee's original business plan stopped with 22 doctors in two local hospitals. Now, 10 years later, we have successfully grown to over 750 clinicians in 33 states. Why? Our growth has never been driven by a desire to be bigger. Apogee's expansion is the direct result of our culture and beliefs. We believe that either you create a destination workplace for your stars or your competition will. We are a physician group, plain and simple. However, our physicians are anything but plain and simple. They represent the best and brightest minds in Hospitalist medicine. It is Apogee's duty to provide opportunities to those physicians who are looking to grow beyond the practice of medicine into leadership, education, clinical excellence and research.

Apogee has been, and will remain, guided by philosophies and principles, not policies and procedures. We are not looking to be the biggest, but we are passionate about being the best. We will continue to innovate, invest heavily in our people, and thereby ensure that Apogee lives up to its name.
